Unity is the fundamental state of being towards which every human being, consciously or unconsciously, strives. Every action, every choice and every decision is anchored in the need for inner unity. The effects are varied. Sometimes it ends in failure. At times, something can be unified. Oftentimes, external facades are created to mask the feeling of internal separation, to distract from the pain it causes, and to satisfy one’s self with a superficial illusion of completeness that one deeply believes in and interprets as real.
In the beginning there was a feeling of separation. This primal pain of losing something most precious…more precious than life itself. This is the beginning of a path of self-aware functioning on Earth that seems normal yet still lacks something. It is the path of the eternal search for that part of yourself that seems detached. We look for it everywhere—in relationships, in the family, in life goals, in career, in travels, in interests, in what is important and meaningful to us, what we attach to, and in extreme cases—in addictions, diseases and dysfunctions.
We seem to know what life is all about. You have to go through the upbringing process, acquire knowledge and skills, work, find the purpose of your life, make some contribution to society and then pass away in peace. It’s all true…we do these things naturally. But by focusing on these individual tasks, we miss the big picture. We forget why we arrived here on Earth.
We are here to get to know ourselves. To get to know the deeper Self. To develop a fascinating, one-of-a-kind relationship with the deeper Self. This is the only and primary goal. The rest is only a measure. Relationships, family, career, preferences, talents, gaining knowledge or experience are just tools leading to one thing—getting to know yourself, your selfhood. Thanks to these activities, we make a full circle, and we return to the starting point—to the deeper Self. Yet the primal pain of separation from the inner Self makes it difficult and sometimes even distracting from this thrilling adventure of getting to know oneself. The circle is broken, and consciousness becomes embedded somewhere in the world, obsessively focused on the external and does not return to the starting point, to the inside, to the deeper Self. In such a condition, we are doomed to a constant lack of real satisfaction, lack of fulfillment on a deep level and a constant search for something, anything that will give meaning to life. Getting stuck is like getting lost in an unknown world and not being able to return home.

Satisfaction and fulfillment do not mean that something is over and nothing more is going to happen, so you can sit down and only experience pleasure. This version of reality is the mind’s greatest illusion and a trap that leads to inner death and a great dissatisfaction with life and oneself. On the contrary. The union with one’s deeper Self and inner fulfillment is not the end, but only the beginning of an authentic life.
This book is intended to help you understand why, despite all efforts and activities most people still do not reach the state of inner fulfillment and continue to seek it, instead of embracing life and living passionately without wasting a fraction of a second.

The animal instinct means looking horizontally, outwards, scanning the environment and surroundings in search for safety, comfort and support in order to survive and escape death. Self- awareness is looking vertically, inward. The point of reference for experiencing life is the center inside, not the external environment as in the case of animals. This leads to finding comfort embedded in a deep inner peace, from which intuition and creativity flow. This gives rise to a trust so complete that the need to control the world and surroundings disappears. A human being discovers that the only place where life really happens is the inner world; the rest is only its reflection. The result is an undisturbed vertical flow of con- sciousness and a harmonious resonance with the outside world along the horizontal axis.
The price of gaining self-awareness is high. It involves letting go of many basic instincts, attachments and comfort zones, of what is known, safe, predictable and automatic. All of this is contrary to our animal nature, which not only refuses to become separated from it, but aims at it. A human being is thus in a deep conflict between a part that is animal, down-to-earth, known and that ensures survival, and a part that wants to float above the ground, be unlimited and create something new that is yet unknown. The detachment of a piece of consciousness from the horizontal axis of the animal’s spine and the creation of a new vertical axis of human self-awareness is, on the one hand, a great leap in the evolution of consciousness, yet on the other—the source of our deepest tragedies. It is a moment of exile from a carefree and unconscious Paradise, to the world of self- awareness, self-knowledge and self-responsibility. Through this process, consciousness seeks to move from the Child to the Adult stage.
(…)
This whole process of transition from the animal’s unconscious horizontal axis of consciousness to the self-aware vertical axis of the mind is called Ascension. The road to it leads through the intertwining of these axes in the area of the heart, where the horizontal meets the vertical, the inner Power meets the intelligence, the unconscious with the awareness, the Inner Child with the Inner Parent, and the Earth meets Heaven. We ascend from the entrapment in the animal’s automatic earthly instincts that are based on the fear of death; we go through the emotional purgatory in our hearts, where we consciously release attachments to life (which is felt as the pain of loss and loneliness), and finally arrive in freedom of heavenly lightness of the mind where the inner creator lives. The creator does not have to do anything, yet, can do EVERYTHING.
